About Ironwood Golf Course

Nestled in the rolling hills of Wyoming County since 2003.

Our Story

Nestled within the gentle rolling hills and beautiful open skies of Wyoming County’s farm country, Ironwood Golf Course offers golfers of all skill levels a challenging and enjoyable round of golf in one of the most scenic settings in Western New York.

Ironwood was built by the Ripstein family, who saw the potential in this stretch of land along Folsomdale Road and brought it to life with the help of their wives, children, and a few friends who knew their way around a tractor and a rake. The greens were shaped by Brian Lembke, owner and operator of Golf Course Shaping Services, and the course was designed by acclaimed Western New York golf architect Scott Witter.

What opened in 2003 was a true lay-of-the-land course — one where the natural terrain dictated the routing and the result was something golfers have been enjoying ever since. Today, Ironwood is known for its welcoming atmosphere, its beautifully maintained playing conditions, and a course that rewards both good strategy and good company.

We’re an easy drive from anywhere in Western New York. Located on Folsomdale Road in Cowlesville, just minutes off Route 20A between East Aurora and Warsaw, we’re 10 minutes from East Aurora, 35 minutes from downtown Buffalo, and 30 minutes from Batavia.

The Course

This 6,416-yard course (from the championship tees) plays as a par 72 and offers a genuinely varied 18-hole experience. The front nine features park-like, tree-lined fairways with a welcoming feel. The back nine opens up into a links-style layout with subtle elevation changes, deep rough, and natural tall grass areas.

Over the years, the course has continued to evolve — with added trees and refinements — while staying true to the open, links-style character that makes Ironwood feel different from anything else in the area. White sand bunkers, dog legs, rolling hills, and water hazards keep things interesting and challenging across every hole.

Course Designed by Scott Witter

Ironwood Golf Course was designed by Scott Witter of Witter Design, one of Western New York’s most respected golf course architects. Witter’s portfolio includes some of the highest-regarded public courses in the region, and his approach to Ironwood reflects a minimalist design philosophy — letting the natural character of the land shape the routing and the experience.

Ironwood Golf Course is a very natural experience and one surely to be enjoyed by everyone who plays it. A true lay-of-the-land golf course, where Mother Nature dictated the optimum routing and the most sensible golf experience given the character and the realities of the land site.
